A 10mm, 11mm, and 12mm,13mm, 15mm sockets/ratchet a flat head screw driver and a torque wrench. All you really need is a 12mm, 17mm, 19mm wrenches. All in all theyre pretty easy, especially if the EGR is outta the way. (kind of like removing the coil wire on gas type).I just finished my injectors today and thought i would post a couple quick tips of things that helped and things i did wrong. Does anyone know what fuse to remove so the engine will try to start with fuel flowing, but not start. Can you remove the return flow pipes without all of that removal?Ģ. Obviously, you cannot with all of that stuff removed.Ī.Do you put it back on, do you just run the test with starter motor only?. Then the test says start the car and run it for 15 seconds. Like the glow plug module, intake heater and fuel filter. You have to remove lots of parts to get at it for removal.

The manual directs you to the section for removal of the fuel injector return pipe. However, I have never done this and have a few questions for anyone that has done it or seen it done.ġ. I think that I can make the kit for about $50-$75. I am going to try to put together some components into a home built flow tester instead of putting several hundred into the special tool or letting the dealer do it. Hi all, Well I am going to attempt to do the fuel injector return flow test to find if all or any of the injectors are passing too much fuel back to the tank thus lowering the fuel rail pressure and giving P0087 code. Hope this adds to the debate that one day will be solved.Ken But I am having some real thoughts about giving up on it. I have absolutely no other problems or performance issues with the truck. However, if you will quickly use the reset button to reset the % value back to 100% before it goes into limp home mode, the truck will keep right on pulling as if nothing had happened. Then about 10 seconds later, you will be put into limp home mode since you are driving with a plugged fuel filter (it thinks). If you use your information display to monitor the fuel filter % left, you can see it happen. BTW, for those of you still suffering with this problem. THe only things left are expensive (fuel pump and injectors). I have installed a lift pump and plugged the fuel bypass valve. This is too much stress on towing for me to continue. I swtiched to driving in Manual and downshifting to 4 from 5 on hill to maintain RPM of 2000 +. It usually happened when in high gear approaching a hill and then not downshifting soon enough. On the way home two weeks ago, I lost it several times going over bridge overpasses in 95 deg weather. Since then (128k miles) it still requires the extra load of towing but fails on smaller and smaller hills and lower temps. It would disapear on flat ground or cool temps. It only happened when towing by 15000 lb 5th wheel in the mountains and hills of the eastern Rocky mtn states where it can get hot in summer. This problems showed up around 75K miles about 3 yrs ago. 128K milesĥ0% unloaded, 50% towing 15000 lb 5th wheel through Rocky mtns in summer.įor those that are interested, here is some more info on my ongoing battle. Did it address the P0087 fault? I know that I could do the return flow test for each injector, but with the effort to get to them, I might as well put in new ones.Ģ007 Silverado LMM Diesel Dually. Is this required? Does a dealer have to do it?Ģ. Also the manual says to reprogram flow specs from each new injector back into engine computer. can this be done without a, command issuing, scan tool. I plan to generally follow proecdure shown for LB7 at with help from shop manual.ġ. So far have replaced all fuel lines, added lift pump and plugged fuel bypass valve. I am considering it as last ditch effort to solve well known P0087 loss of power when towing in hot weather problem. Has anyone with LMM done DIY replacement of fuel injectors.
